Elizabeth Stitzel is the winner of Indiana Farm Bureau’s Young Farmer Discussion Meet.
The discussion meet, which was held Dec. 9 as part of the INFB state convention, is one of three major awards presented to Farm Bureau members age 35 or younger. In it, contestants participate in a group discussion that simulates a committee meeting.
Stitzel and the other three finalists discussed the purpose of food labels and how Farm Bureau members can help consumers understand and have confidence in the safety of their food supply.
She will now advance to the national Young Farmer & Rancher Discussion Meet, which will be held during the American Farm Bureau annual meeting, Jan. 6-11 in Phoenix, Arizona.
Stitzel lives in Clinton County with her two children. She works as a zoning administrator in the Clinton County planning office.
As winner of the Indiana discussion meet, Stitzel wins a $4,000 cash prize from Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance and expenses paid to national convention in Phoenix.
The three runners up were Jeff Demerly, White County; Matt Stine, Montgomery County; and Amanda Mosiman, Warrick County. The runners up each win a $1,000 cash prize from Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance.
Stitzel was recognized along with the winners of the two other Young Farmer program awards: Dallas and Meggie Foster of Hancock County won the Achievement Award, and Deidra Gottbrath of Washington County received the Excellence in Agriculture Award.
