Indiana Farm Bureau awarded development grants to five county Farm Bureaus to support new or expanded county Farm Bureau programs or events that promote or provide education about agriculture.

This June, INFB will host three educator workshops across the state. The workshops are for Agriculture in the Classroom volunteers and any interested teachers. Ag in the Classroom is a program led by INFB which helps bring agriculture education into Indiana’s schools.

In response to the economic strain caused by COVID-19, Indiana Farm Bureau has donated $5,000 to Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana, Inc. to help provide food to those affected by this pandemic.

On March 11, Indiana Farm Bureau’s health benefit legislation passed the Indiana General Assembly. The bill only requires the governor's signature to become law.

Indiana Farm Bureau in conjunction with the Indiana FFA Association hosted an advocacy day at the Statehouse in Indianapolis. More than 150 FFA students from across the state met more than 30 state legislators to discuss how legislation could affect their future and the future of agriculture.

Indiana Farm Bureau is now accepting applications for its student scholarship program for the 2020-2021 school year. Each year, INFB awards 13 scholarships to incoming or current college students who are pursuing a career in agriculture.

Amie Osborn, Marion County, won the 2019 INFB Young Farmers & Ag Professionals discussion meet at the INFB state convention in French Lick. Osborn will represent INFB at the AFBF convention in January.

At the start of 2020, the Indiana Farm Bureau special recognition license plate will be available at Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles locations. A portion of the license plate fee will benefit the Farm Bureau Foundation, which supports youth in agriculture.

Results from Indiana Farm Bureau’s annual Thanksgiving market basket survey show, Hoosier shoppers can expect to spend approximately 10% less at the grocery store this Thanksgiving.

This fall, thousands of acres of hemp will be harvested in Indiana for the first time in several decades. Many Indiana Farm Bureau members are among the select group of farmers who obtained a license to grow hemp this year. INFB spoke with two of those farmers to learn about growing hemp in Indiana.

Indiana Farm Bureau leaders and staff met with legislators at the Statehouse for INFB's annual Organization Day Breakfast. During the event, members of the INFB board of directors and the public policy team spoke with legislators about the organization's policy priorities for 2020.

Two young farm families, who share similar last names, took the top honors in Indiana Farm Bureau's Young Farmer Awards. Eric and Megan Scheller of Vanderburgh County won the INFB Young Farmer Excellence in Agriculture Award. Aaron and Lacey Sheller of Hamilton County won the INFB Young Farmer Achievement Award.

INFB held its annual summer delegate session on Saturday, Aug. 24. The meeting was the culmination of a year long process to develop clear policy priorities for the next Indiana General Assembly. Among the policy issues members would like to see pursued during 2020 included various hemp related initiatives.
