Indiana Farm Bureau's annual Thanksgiving market basket survey shows that Indiana shoppers will pay more for their Thanksgiving meals than in 2016. Turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie filling and relish tray veggies are up; rolls, peas, whipping cream and pie shells are down.

Indiana Farm Bureau and John Deere have joined forces to offer discounts on John Deere equipment and products as a new benefit to Indiana Farm Bureau members. As of September 11, 2018, new members will have to wait 30 days to use the discounts in order to ensure that their INFB memberships are valid.

Hoosiers preparing meals at home will once again be enjoying lower food prices than the national average based on the fall market survey conducted by Farm Bureau. The toal cost of 16 standard shopping list items is $44.85 in Indiana, while the national average is $51.13.

Indiana Farm Bureau, Inc. is seeking nominations for the 2017 Indiana Certified Crop Adviser of the Year Award. Nominations are due by November 10. The award will be presented at the Indiana Certified Crop Adviser Conference held in Indianapolis on December 12-13.

Indiana Farm Bureau concluded its 2017 Leaders in Action program in Washington, D.C. this month where members met with Indiana’s national elected officials including Sen. Todd Young, Sen. Joe Donnelly and five U.S. Representatives. Leaders in Action is an annual program for INFB members looking to improve their leadership skills for the betterment of Indiana agriculture.

INFB announces the 2017 winners of two of its top young farmer awards: the Achievement Award and the Excellence in Agriculture Award. Matthew and Brianna Chapman of Henry County will receive the Achievement Award, which recognizes young farmer's leadership abilities and what they have achieved with their farms. Jeff Demerly of White County was chosen for the Excellence in Agriculture Award, which recognizes involvement in agriculture, leadership ability and involvement and participation in Farm Bureau and other organizations.

From new attractions like the Peterson Farm Brothers show on Opening Day, August 4 and the "Barn Theater" featuring videos of Hoosier farmers sharing their stories to favorites like "Taste From Indiana Farms" (August 15-17), Old-Fashioned Pancake Breakfast (Aug. 16), "Ag Fact Adventure" scavenger hunt and, yes, free popcorn. Indiana Farm Bureau has chosen the six finalists for two of its 2017 Young Farmer awards: the Excellence in Agriculture Award and the Achievement Award. This year's finalists are from Wolcott, Richland, Lexington, Springport, Nappannee and Kendallville. Indiana's winners will go on to compete with young farmers and ranchers from other states at the American Farm Bureau Federation national convention in January 2018.
